Projects Gallery Exhibition Proposals are open only to Utah-based artists and curators.

Located in the front of the building, the Projects Gallery is the first exhibition room that visitors encounter when coming UMOCA. Dedicated solely to exhibitions by contemporary artists living in Utah, this gallery will provide a professional exhibition experience for the artist(s), will allow for greater visibility of local artists’ work, and will help promote local artists to patrons of the arts outside of Utah as well.

Applicants to the Projects Gallery should have a clear proposal for a compelling and feasible project that will fit appropriately in the space of the gallery. Artists may propose an exhibition of their own work, or a curated exhibition of artists living in Utah. We are looking for artwork that is contemporary, well-produced, and would be appropriate for the demographic of visitors that UMOCA enjoys. We welcome proposals for site-specific, multi-media, or performative projects, in addition to photography, painting, and sculpture.

There is no deadline to apply. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Incomplete proposals will not be considered.

Proposals should include:

  • Name, address, phone number, email, website for applicant.
  • Title and description of project (what is the medium, how many pieces, what will it look like, what is the concept of the exhibition) Description of project (explain the theme of the show, the types of works that will be in it, the installation of the works – if known – and the expected demographic) (100-300 words)
  • List of (proposed) artists and/or artworks that will be in the show
  • Artist or Curatorial statement (optional, if not already covered in project description)
  • 10-20 Images (if possible) of proposed or similar past works. If proposing a curated group show, provide images from each artist and websites if possible. Jpegs or PDF format ONLY.
  • Explanation of why you are interested in doing this project/exhibition at UMOCA (50-200 words)
  • Budget (we do not offer a budget to produce works, but can provide a limited amount of assistance to cover costs of installation)
  • Description of installation needs
  • CV of curator, organizers and invited artists.
  • Please submit application in pdf format or, if file size is too large, through a file sharing platform like Google Drive or WeTransfer to jared.steffensen@utahmoca.org.

UMOCA does not:
