The Next Supper

The Next Supper was a success! Many thanks to everyone who purchased tickets to this unique experience… we hope you enjoyed an evening to remember!

Nationally emerging artist John Bell will host The Next Supper, an uncommon dinner party in which guests are the subject, the art, and the artist. The dinner will take place in the cavernous Main Gallery at UMOCA. During The Next Supper, dining tables are covered with unfinished canvases the artist screen-prints with text and images that serve as both provocation and backdrop. Bell will encourage guests to use their food and other elements on the table including wine, candle wax, flowers, and utensils to react to and complete the canvases. The artist will assume the role of facilitator and documentarian, and the result will be a participatory work of art created between the artist and the dinner guests.

Native Utahn, Ryan Lowder, chef and owner of the Copper Onion, will bring his personal take on New American cuisine to the dinner with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC, and South America. For his part in the evening, Lowder will create a meal that not only has outstanding flavors, but also offers the guests a suitable color palette for their part in the evening’s performance.

The event also includes a classic cocktail and wine reception compliments of Southern Wine and Spirits, with hors d’ouvers generously donated by Tony Caputo’s Market & Deli and the multi-course meal,  is complimented with a wine pairing by Bottleneck Wines.

The Next Supper is a collaboration of Artist John Bell, Mary Fresques, Ryan Lowder and The Copper Onion.

Bell will also be exhibiting select paintings during the performance. Proceeds from the event and paintings benefit the mission and vision of the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.
