INLAND ISLAND NO 6. (detail), Acrylic on canvas. 72”x72”. 2008
Not Just Another Pretty Face, presented by Salt Lake Art Center, encourages new and existing collectors of contemporary art to commission work from a select group of emerging and established artists. This process strengthens Utah’s artistic community by building personal relationships between artists and patrons, while also supporting the Art Center’s mission to exhibit engaging contemporary art and provide dynamic educational programming for our community.
Through a series of salons, the Not Just Another Pretty Face program will present potential patrons with information about a group of selected artists, then invite those patrons to collaborate with specific artists on commissioned works. Although the commissioned works may take the form of traditional portraiture, the program title, Not Just Another Pretty Face, is meant to encourage a broad interpretation of a personally commissioned work of art. Commissions can include any art form or content that a paired artist and patron decide to create.
When a patron commissions an artwork, half of the proceeds will support an innovative artist and half will support the Art Center’s growing exhibition and educational programming. The process of creating engaging and personal works through the Not Just Another Pretty Face program will culminate in a grand unveiling of the artwork at our annual gala on June 11, 2011, followed by an exhibition of the commissioned works at Salt Lake Art Center open until August 13, 2011.
