The Word for Coal Compressing Into a Diamond

Nov 9, 2024 11 AM–1 PM

Join us on Saturday, November 9, from 11 am to 1 pm for a special celebration of the release of The Word for Coal Compressing Into a Diamond, a two-part book and video project by artists Kellie Bornhoft and Sunni Brown Wilkinson.

The Word for Coal Compressing Into a Diamond combines poetry and visual art to form an ode to creation, to our remarkable bodies, and to the earth we live on. It explores the grittiness of childbirth in connection to phenomena such as the “dirty diamonds” of the Great Salt Lake, mud pots, volcanoes, and other geologic features and celebrates the way we, like the landscapes we live on, change, evolve, and create.

The Book Release Reception will begin with a screening of video work, a short reading from the book, and a Q&A. Food and drinks will be served as guests are invited to mingle afterward.

This event is free, but registration is required.
