Kellie Bornhoft Artist Talk

Join us for an artist talk where UMOCA Artist-in-Residence Kellie Bornhoft will discuss the process, ideas, and research behind her exhibition Touchstone  on view in the AIR Space through January 3, 2026.

With Touchstone, UMOCA Artist-in-Residence Kellie Bornhoft invites viewers to reflect on the deep entanglement between the human body and the Earth. Her sculptures embed sixteen of the most prevalent minerals found in the body into large resin sheets, arranged in the same proportions in which they exist within us. Their forms recall the thin slices of rock that geologists use to study hidden structures within stone.

Alongside these sculptural works, the installation incorporates hand-drawn animations, poetic texts, and video projections of mineral footage. A layered soundscape expands the experience, evoking the cycles of matter as it moves between earth and body, dissolving, re-forming, and carrying memory with it.
