Create your own one-of-a-kind miniature ceramic charm inspired by a cherished memory in this hands-on workshop. Explore the basics of handbuilding with clay, underglaze techniques, and glazing, guided by local artist Shiya Zeng.
Completed and fired charms will be available for pickup at UMOCA from January 30 to February 4.

About the artist:
Shiya (pronounced “see ya”) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Salt Lake City who explores her cultural identity through ceramics and illustration. Of Taishanese descent, Shiya immigrated to Utah from the rural Chinese county-city with her family of aspiring restaurateurs in the early 2000s, and her work draws on both traditional Chinese and modern Pan-Asian artistic techniques.
